New Galleries “Trentino 2026”.

A trip of two weeks in late June to Trentino in Northern Italy, the mountainous region between Lago di Garda and the alpine province of South Tyrole, and as a bonus a few days in the city of Verona.

Gear: Leica M11 with Voigtländer 21 mm / F 1.8 ULTRON VM Ashperical, Leica Summarit 35mm 2.4 Asph, Leica Summilux 50mm 1.4 Asph, and Leica Elmarit 90mm F/2.8 as well as an odd iPhone shot.

Trento & Rovereto

First stop was the regional capital Trento which our Merian guidebook called “possibly the best town to live in Italy” – quite a claim. Our apartment allowed an excellent view over the nearby castle and the old city. A day trip brought us to Rovereto with its excellent Casa d’arte Futurista museum founded by and dedicated to the artist Fortunato Depero.

The next week took us deeper into the mountains to lake Ledro with several excursions to explore the surrounding area.

Arte Sella

An hour’s drive eastwards from Trento brings you to Borgo Valsugana where the beautiful Arte Sella is located – an exhibition of contemporary sculptural art integrated into nature.

Verona B&W

If you avoid the omnipresent ‘Romeo & Juliet’ knick-knack, Verona is a marvellous city with its UNESCO world heritage old town, incredible churches, shops and restaurants. These sights cry for timeless black-and-white photography.
